One way to stop tooth decay!!

Uncategorized Oct 12, 2021

The health of your mouth is a direct reflection of the health of the inside of your body.  Cavities are a warning sign that there is something BIGGER going on inside the body.  The solution is to support the system from the inside with healthy nutritious food and lifestyle practices.

One major player in your Oral Health is SUGAR!!

Sugar may seem harmless to you but sugar affects your Oral health and your body in two distinct ways. And due to the SAD, the average American consumes 125g of sugar a day and the recommended daily allotment of sugar is 25g per day. So it’s important that you know how sugar affects you and be more aware of ways to eliminate sugar from your diet.

Sugar has a direct link to tooth decay.  Sugar feeds the bacteria in your mouth causing the bacteria to produce plaque and acid which dissolves the enamel and weakens the tooth.

Sugar also, when refined, has no nutritional value added to your body. Infact, the processing of sugar in your body through digestion requires your body to borrow vital nutrients—calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, thiamine, chromium, and zinc from healthy cells to metabolize that processed sugar. Sugar requires B vitamins and minerals for digestion to occur. If you do not have any nutrient reserves, the body starts to draw on its own reserves in order to do the biochemical breakdown of that substance, one place it borrows from is the minerals in your TEETH.

In order to stop tooth decay and improve your oral health, we need to ditch the refined, processed sugars out of our lives.

Awareness of your sugar intake is step one to making a change.  Start reading labels and tally up the added sugar you eat per day.  It's recommended to eat less than 25 grams of sugar per day.

The second step is to use more natural and nutrient dense sugars in your cooking and baking.  Coconut sugar, dates, maple syrup and honey are much better alternatives to add to your diet.  These sugars will not rob your body of nutrients during the digestion process.
